Bandai Namco to Shut Down PAC-MAN Mobile Game

Bandai Namco has made the bittersweet announcement of the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, coinciding ironically with the legendary icon's 45th anniversary celebration this year. This beloved version of the game, which first hit the mobile scene over a decade ago, is set to close its virtual doors.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is scheduled for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases have been discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. The decision to shut down completely rather than transition to an offline version has sparked disappointment among the community, who felt that an offline option could have been a viable alternative, potentially still generating revenue for Bandai Namco.

PAC-MAN Mobile, once known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. Alongside the iconic 8-bit arcade mode, players could dive into a Story Mode featuring a variety of original mazes. The game also introduced an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, where players could unlock exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode added weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and the game was further enriched with a range of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.

The Reason

The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile comes after years of accumulating bugs and issues, which likely played a significant role in Bandai Namco's decision. The game's initial launch on Android was met with excitement, with players eagerly competing for high scores and leaderboard rankings. Those early days were filled with fun and community engagement.

If you're keen to experience PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its farewell, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
