The departure of Abebe Tinari, director of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, from PlatinumGames to Housemarque, adds to the growing concerns surrounding PlatinumGames' future. This follows the high-profile exit of Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Bayonetta, in September 2023, and subsequent rumors of other key developers leaving the studio.
Tinari's move to Housemarque, the Returnal developer, was confirmed via his LinkedIn profile. He has taken on a lead game designer role, likely contributing to Housemarque's currently unannounced new IP. Housemarque, acquired by PlayStation in 2021, has been developing this project since the release of Returnal. An official announcement is not expected before 2026.
PlatinumGames' recent losses raise questions about the impact on upcoming projects. While the studio is celebrating Bayonetta's 15th anniversary, potentially hinting at a new installment, the future of Project GG, a new IP previously led by Kamiya, remains uncertain. Kamiya's departure and the exodus of other key personnel could significantly affect the project's development timeline. The overall situation underscores a period of significant change and uncertainty for PlatinumGames.
