Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered edition of the FromSoftware masterpiece have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, remains a fan favorite, with many eager to revisit the gothic city of Yharnam on modern consoles. While official confirmation remains elusive, recent Instagram posts from FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia featuring the game have sent anticipation soaring.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three evocative images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One depicted Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others captured the player character exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts could simply be a nostalgic nod, dedicated Bloodborne players on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for clues confirming a long-awaited remaster. The timing, especially with a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only heightened the sense of anticipation.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location, prompting a flurry of comments expressing the desire for a Yharnam return, with some humorously suggesting a PC or modern console release as the most iconic location.
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a dedicated following, lauded as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake as a potential precedent, but concerns linger about the potential wait. The decade-long wait for the Demon's Souls remake casts a shadow, fueling fears of a similar delay for Bloodborne, especially as its tenth anniversary approaches.
Fueling the speculation further, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted at the advantages of remastering for modern hardware in a February Eurogamer interview. While not explicitly confirming anything, he acknowledged the increased accessibility and value that modern hardware could offer.
However, Miyazaki's comments don't guarantee a remaster. Unlike Elden Ring, FromSoftware doesn't hold the publishing rights to Bloodborne; Sony retains control. Miyazaki himself has emphasized his inability to comment definitively on the matter in interviews with IGN and others.
The passionate Bloodborne community eagerly awaits a remake. Despite critical acclaim and strong sales, the game's reach remains limited to PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
