Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is set to delay its inaugural in-game event to prioritize crucial quality-of-life enhancements. In an update posted on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games shared a Development Roadmap that outlined the upcoming plans for Civ 7.

The much-anticipated Update 1.1.0 is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate release date for the Nintendo Switch. Originally planned for this update, the first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," has been postponed. Firaxis explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access launch, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning its user interface (UI). Responding to community feedback, Firaxis has acknowledged, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further stated, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

Update 1.1.0 aims to tackle community suggestions and feedback head-on. While the full update notes will be available at release, Firaxis has provided a sneak peek into what players can expect.

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be available for all players to explore at no additional cost. The update will also bring significant improvements to the UI, addressing player concerns directly. Additionally, there will be changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.

Alongside these enhancements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025

The next significant update for Civ 7 is set for March 25, 2025, although this date may be subject to change. The focus remains on refining the game's UI, with Firaxis stating, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continue to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond March, Civ 7 plans to introduce further enhancements, including a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), updates to multiplayer support, and more.

Firaxis emphasized, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
