Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What's the Best Choice?

by Michael Apr 14,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but deciding whether to confront Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will shape the rest of your campaign. Both characters present reasons to be suspicious during the tea ceremony, but there's a clear choice that simplifies the quest considerably.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you should confront Wakasa, as she is the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Choosing to confront her will lead to a straightforward resolution and an easier way to eliminate her.

When you confront Wakasa, she'll invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering, you'll notice a kasa (straw hat) hanging on the wall, which Wakasa wore during the prologue as the Onryo, confirming your choice. After some dialogue, Naoe can end the mission quickly by taking Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her point-blank.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If you mistakenly confront Otama after the tea ceremony, you'll still be able to kill Wakasa eventually, but it will involve a more complex stealth and combat scenario. Choosing Otama leads Naoe to chase and kill her, only to discover a letter revealing her corruption. Meanwhile, Wakasa will fortify herself in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To confront Wakasa, you'll need to travel to Osaka Castle, either fighting her soldiers or sneaking past them. Even if you reach Wakasa and attempt a stealth kill, you'll still need to engage in a one-on-one fight. While the boss fight isn't overly challenging, choosing to confront Wakasa directly avoids unnecessary complications and offers a more satisfying cinematic conclusion, especially given her role in Naoe's father's death.

Now that you're aware of the optimal decision post-Tea Ceremony, consider learning how to gain XP and level up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* to prepare for tougher challenges. Additionally, explore ways to earn more Knowledge Points to unlock new skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
