Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation

by Nova Apr 17,2025

According to Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film, Coyote vs. Acme, may still have a chance at a theatrical release. The Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company, Ketchup Entertainment, is reportedly engaged in deep sale negotiations for the completed movie. Although the deal is not finalized, a successful negotiation could lead to Coyote vs. Acme hitting theaters in 2026.

Originally announced in 2022, Coyote vs. Acme is based on a 1990 Ian Frazier New Yorker article of the same name. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring stars Will Forte and John Cena, was initially set for a mid-2023 release on Max. Despite having completed filming, it was unfortunately shelved, sparking an ongoing campaign to save it.

PlayKetchup Entertainment has a history of rescuing films from cancellation. They recently saved another Warner Bros. project, *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie*, from a similar fate. This film, the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release, was described by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."

Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio includes other notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, they co-produced Michael Mann’s 2023 biopic Ferrari.
