Cyberpunk 2077 Lunar DLC: Unreleased Space Expansion Details

Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once tantalized with the prospect of an expansive DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon, but unfortunately, these plans were shelved. Thanks to the diligent work of blogger and dataminer SirMZK, who unearthed leaks and files from the game's code, we now have insights into CD Projekt RED's ambitious plans for this cosmic expansion.

The game's files revealed intriguing references to lunar surface maps, detailed zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a model of a rover. The envisioned Moon location was to be vast, possibly encompassing a quarter of Night City's size, with an open-world design that would have introduced a whole new layer to the gameplay, taking players beyond the familiar neon-lit streets.

A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. While it didn't make it into the final version of the game, keen-eyed players can spot the Crystal Palace during one of the game's endings when V gazes out of a spaceship window. Moreover, the files hinted at a prototype for a zero-gravity bar, which was part of a cut quest named "201," linked to the Arasaka storyline.

There is a glimmer of hope among fans that some of these innovative ideas might re-emerge in CD Projekt RED's next project, Orion, which is set to further explore the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm the revival of these concepts.

Although the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the uncovered details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been—a daring venture for Cyberpunk 2077 that would have taken the game into uncharted territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk style.
