The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Are Striving For Witcher 3 Levels of Quality

The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG developed by former CD Projekt Red talent, aspires to match The Witcher 3's legendary quality despite its more focused scope. Discover what makes this ambitious project from industry veterans special.

Creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz revealed to Games Radar that Rebel Wolves, though newly formed, aims to deliver Witcher 3-caliber excellence with their debut title. The studio's veteran team seeks to blend AAA craftsmanship with independent creative freedom.

When addressing the "AA" classification debate, Tomaszkiewicz clarified: "Quality-wise, we benchmark against AAA titles. Our roots are in The Witcher 3's standard - that's our reference point."

Rebel Wolves may be a fresh studio, but its founders aren't newcomers. The team comprises CD Projekt Red alumni behind The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, bringing decades of combined RPG expertise to this passion project.

"Our scope is intentionally tighter - we're a smaller team creating our first game," Tomaszkiewicz noted. "But we refuse to compromise on polish. Players can expect a rich 30-40 hour journey that focuses on narrative depth rather than endless content." He challenged conventional size metrics: "Does Call of Duty's campaign length make it AA? Scale isn't the sole measure of quality."

The Blood of Dawnwalker transports players to Vale Sangora, a shadowy fantasy realm where protagonist Coen gains vampiric abilities unexpectedly. This reluctant hero embarks on a perilous quest to cure his dying sister while navigating a world hostile to his newfound nature.

While specific release dates remain unconfirmed, platforms include PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can anticipate gameplay reveals during Summer 2025.
