Digimon Con Reveals New Project: Digital TCG Launch Imminent?

by George Mar 30,2025

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 promises to be an exciting event. You can anticipate a variety of new announcements and updates on forthcoming projects within the franchise, but one particular teaser has piqued our interest: a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The obvious speculation here is that this might hint at a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android for many of their physical trading card games, the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket suggests that a similar move for Digimon wouldn't be unprecedented.

However, it's wise to temper our expectations slightly. The teaser might indicate that mobile is the platform for this new project, or it could simply be suggesting that mobile devices are a way to watch the upcoming livestream later this week.

ytGoing DigitalIt's fair to say that while Digimon is not unpopular, it is often overshadowed by Pokémon. During the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but while Digimon may be the preferred choice among nostalgic anime fans, Pokémon has captured the global pop culture crown.

Launching a digital TCG for Digimon would not be an automatic success as it might be for Pokémon. However, it wouldn't be a high-risk move either, given the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG. Making it more accessible to a broader audience could be a significant advantage. We'll have to tune into the Digimon Con livestream later this month to find out more.

In the meantime, if you're eager to explore new releases you can play right now, why not check out some of our reviews? Last week, Jupiter delved into the much-anticipated game Good Coffee, Great Coffee to see if it lives up to its promise.
