Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Unveils Exciting Updates

Closed Beta Kicks Off on March 13, 2025

Ubisoft has officially announced that the Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will run from March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase, to March 19th at the same times.

To participate, fans can watch the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through various Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, showcasing the new Dual Front game mode.

However, some players have reported issues with not receiving their access codes via email. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it.

It's important to highlight that R6 Siege X isn't a new game, but a major update enhancing the existing Siege experience with graphical and technical improvements.

Introducing Dual Front: A Dynamic 6v6 Game Mode

Ubisoft has introduced Dual Front, a new 6v6 game mode designed to bring foundational upgrades to Siege, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more. Alongside these improvements, revamped player protection systems and free access will allow players to experience the unique tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege at no cost.

The action unfolds on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in a simultaneous attack and defense of enemy sectors. This is the first time R6 will feature both attacking and defending Operators at once, promising new tactical possibilities and gadget combinations.

While Dual Front takes center stage, the classic Siege mode, now renamed "Core Siege," will also receive updates. Five maps—Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe—will be modernized with double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. Future seasons will continue to modernize three maps at a time.

Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10

After a decade since its launch, Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting Season 2 of Year 10. This move aligns with the trends set by major competitors. Initially released in 2015, Siege was designed as a paid multiplayer game, but the landscape of live-service games has evolved significantly.

Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis emphasized the intent to introduce the game to new players during the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13. He stated, "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special." Karpazis believes that reducing the barrier to entry will enhance the social aspect of the game, as "Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."

Free access will include Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front mode. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to players with premium access. Former game director Leroy Athanassoff mentioned in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer that this paywall helps maintain the integrity of competitive play by deterring smurfs and cheaters. Karpazis added, "It is, in our opinion, the best of both worlds where you can bring in new players but also have this place where veterans feel super competitive and committed to the game."

No Plans for Siege 2: Focus on Evolution

Despite celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Ubisoft has no plans for a sequel like Overwatch 2 or Counter-Strike 2. Karpazis explained, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." The focus for Siege has been on doing what's right for the game and its players.

Siege X has been in development for three years, running parallel to Siege's regular seasonal updates. Karpazis highlighted that Siege X is designed to evolve the game for another decade, stating, "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far."

He emphasized the vital role of the community, saying, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."

Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with all the latest developments by checking our Rainbow Six Siege articles below!
