Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening, the eagerly awaited multiplayer survival game inspired by the iconic 1965 science fiction novel, is set to launch without a monthly subscription. Funcom, the game's developer, has shared exciting updates on the game's release, business model, and the various editions available for purchase. Dive in to learn more about what's in store for fans of the Dune universe.

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will enjoy a full release on May 20, bypassing the early access phase. In a detailed blog post on Steam dated March 21, the developer outlined the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.

Unlike many of its MMO counterparts such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, which rely on monthly subscriptions, Dune: Awakening will not follow this route. Instead, the game will be supported through free updates, ensuring a continuous stream of new content, features, and enhancements for players to explore.

Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support, drawing on their successful track record with live service games. Their portfolio includes Anarchy Online, soon to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular free updates, DLCs, and expansions well beyond its initial release.

Players can choose from three editions of the game: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. Pre-ordering any edition grants access to two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a beautifully crafted in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a distinctive color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
