Eggers To Helm 'Labyrinth' Sequel

by Simon Feb 21,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror remake Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the iconic fantasy film Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter in the Labyrinth saga, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with Scott Derrickson attached, which ultimately stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now opted for Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped brother. The film is known for its blend of dark fantasy and Jim Henson's captivating puppetry.

Eggers' plate is full, however. He's also directing a werewolf film, Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a reimagining of Murnau's 1922 silent classic, was released last Christmas. The film, set in 19th-century Germany, follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors. Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations, including Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. [Link to Nosferatu review]
