Jason Kingsley, the CEO of Rebellion, has expressed an openness to the development of Evil Genius 3, though he has refrained from making any official announcements at this stage. The franchise is particularly dear to him, and he is currently pondering how to elevate it further. Kingsley believes that the theme of world domination, central to the series, could be explored beyond the traditional base-building simulator genre and into other strategic game formats. Although specific projects remain in the conceptual phase, the team at Rebellion is diligently brainstorming new ideas to propel the franchise forward.
When Evil Genius 2 was released in 2021, it garnered "mostly positive" reviews from critics on Metacritic. However, the reception among regular players was less favorable. While the sequel boasted enhanced graphics and efforts to rectify previous shortcomings, it did not meet the expectations set by the original Evil Genius. Players expressed dissatisfaction with various elements, including the global map, the mechanics related to minions and structures, and numerous other features. Despite these criticisms, the potential for Evil Genius 3 remains a topic of interest and speculation among fans and within the development team at Rebellion.
