Game Freak Unveils Leaked Pokémon Multiplayer Game

by Hannah Apr 04,2025

After months of speculation and leaks, fans have been treated to the first official glimpse of Pokémon Champions, a new multiplayer battle-centric game developed through a collaboration between Game Freak and The Pokémon Works. The Pokémon Works is a recent joint venture between The Pokémon Company and ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokémon Champions is designed to focus intensely on Pokémon battles, incorporating the series' traditional "core-style battles" and enabling online multiplayer combat. The game's trailer confirmed the inclusion of both Mega Evolution and Terastalization, hinting at a comprehensive representation of various Pokémon battle types and eras.

PlayMoreover, **Pokémon Champions** will integrate with **Pokémon Home**, offering players the ability to transfer Pokémon from other games into this new title. This feature provides a fresh opportunity for fans to utilize the Pokémon they've collected over the years, bringing them into new battles.

Currently in development for both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, Pokémon Champions has not yet been given a release date. At launch, the game will support Latin American Spanish, in addition to other languages previously featured in Pokémon games.

Pokémon Champions appears to be the same project as Pokémon Synapse, which was first revealed during the "Freak Leak" last year. This leak exposed a wealth of internal Game Freak information, including details on unreleased games, meeting notes, and Pokémon designs. At the time, it was known that Pokémon Synapse was being co-developed by Game Freak and ILCA, with early indications suggesting it would be a multiplayer game. While some speculated it might resemble Splatoon, the final product seems to diverge from those initial comparisons.
