"Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release"

by Amelia Apr 02,2025

Recent updates to the Steam listing for Hollow Knight: Silksong have ignited a flurry of excitement among fans, hinting at a possible re-reveal and release in the near future. On March 24, changes to the game's metadata were spotted on SteamDB, including an opt-in for GeForce Now, updated assets, and a significant update to the copyright year on the Steam store page, shifting from 2019 to 2025. These modifications suggest that Team Cherry, the developers behind the game, are gearing up for a major announcement.

The anticipation is further fueled by the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, where fans hope to see Hollow Knight: Silksong make an appearance, possibly as a launch title for the new console. This speculation is not unfounded, given that the game was originally announced to launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Moreover, Hollow Knight: Silksong is highly anticipated on Xbox Game Pass, following Microsoft's deal to include it on the service from day one.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, with sporadic updates and long periods of silence from Team Cherry. However, January saw a surge in speculation due to cryptic social media activity from one of the developers, hinting at a potential showcase during the Switch 2 Direct.

In June 2022, Hollow Knight: Silksong was featured in Microsoft's Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, with a promise of a release within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, citing the game's expanding scope and a commitment to delivering a high-quality product. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, emphasized their excitement about the game's development and their desire to perfect it before release.

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, a testament to the original game's rich world and engaging gameplay. In IGN's review of Hollow Knight, the game was praised for its compelling world, Hallownest, full of stories to uncover and branching paths that offer players a multitude of choices and challenges.
