It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 keeps up the tradition with a surprising twist. During today's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Koei Tecmo is developing a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment brings a fresh chapter to the saga, focusing on the characters from the ancient history segments of Tears of the Kingdom. This includes the familiar faces of Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and the other Secret Stone bearers. The game delves into Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, where she allies with the last of the Zonai tribe, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his menacing forces.

The trailer showcased some exciting abilities of these champions, from Mineru piloting her mech to Zelda wielding her magic, Rauru brandishing a unique sword-spear, and brief glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders in action.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity notably offered a slightly unconventional take on the established narrative of Breath of the Wild, making it an intriguing experience. We rated Age of Calamity a 9/10, describing it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
