Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is Proof 'You Don't Need AI to Steal My Soul,' Harrison Ford Says

by Hunter Feb 14,2025

Harrison Ford, the iconic Indiana Jones actor, recently praised Troy Baker's performance as Indy in the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, stating that it proves "you don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford expressed his satisfaction with Baker's portrayal, emphasizing the talent and ingenuity involved. He declared, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it."

Released in December, The Great Circle is considered an authentic addition to the Indiana Jones franchise, though not necessarily canonical. Its positive reception contrasts sharply with the less-than-stellar reviews of the latest Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, released in 2023. This disparity in reception might influence future franchise decisions, potentially favoring video game adaptations over further films starring Ford.

Ford joins a growing chorus of creatives voicing concerns about AI's role in filmmaking and other media. Notable figures like Tim Burton, who described AI-generated art as "very disturbing," and Nicolas Cage, who deemed it a "dead end," share similar sentiments. The concerns extend to the voice acting community, with actors such as Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher) expressing anxieties about AI's potential to displace actors and undermine their livelihoods. While Cockle acknowledges AI's inevitability, he highlights its inherent dangers and the threat it poses to voice actors' income.
