Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

by Madison May 14,2025

In a recent video titled "A Bad Month," popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, shared his disappointment over the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror sci-fi game developed by Frictional Games and released in 2015, has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye, who streamed it extensively upon its launch and often cites it as one of his top games.

Jacksepticeye expressed his excitement about the project, mentioning how he had been in discussions with the developers for a year and was ready to move into full production. He had planned to hold off on playing the game in one video until the show could be announced, which explains his delay in revisiting the game on his channel.

However, the project fell apart abruptly when an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction," leaving Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and unwilling to delve into the specifics of what happened. This unexpected turn of events has significantly disrupted his plans for 2025, as he had intended to focus heavily on the show, reducing his content output in anticipation of its release.

The cancellation has left Jacksepticeye feeling frustrated and uncertain about his priorities and future projects. He mentioned having numerous calls over the past weeks and described the period as a challenging month, feeling as though he had nothing to show for his efforts despite taking time off to work on the project.

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more Amnesia titles: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In the wake of the latter's release, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip indicated the company's intention to explore themes beyond horror, focusing on other emotional qualities and immersive experiences. This shift in focus might have influenced the decision regarding the Soma animated show, though no direct connection was explicitly stated.
