Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won is exploring new horizons after being inspired by Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test. Dive into the details about the upcoming Overture DLC and what fans can anticipate from this exciting expansion.

Following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won expressed a renewed sense of creativity and openness to new project ideas. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his admiration for FromSoftware's innovative approach with Eurogamer. His appreciation for their work is reflected in the design of Lies of P.
Choi was particularly impressed by Nightreign, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."
This experience has led Choi to consider new directions for future projects, including the possibility of developing multiplayer games. He affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his admiration for FromSoftware, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are diverse. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content that the developers initially wanted to include in the base game. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."
Overture serves as a prequel, taking players back to the final days of Krat as they follow a legendary Stalker. This expansion incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that couldn't be included in the initial release due to production constraints. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, suggesting it completes the game's narrative arc.
He noted, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." The positive reception from the community after the base game's release further motivated the team to create a comprehensive expansion.

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the base game hinted at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.
Choi emphasized the team's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

Choi encouraged fans to revisit the base game, as it contains numerous hints about what the DLC might entail. He also mentioned enjoying fan theories online, some of which he found to be remarkably accurate.
Lies of P: Overture is slated for release in Summer 2025, with no specific date announced yet. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related articles below!
