Longvinter Exits Early Access on Steam, Rivaling Animal Crossing for PC Gamers

After three years of dedicated development, incorporating player feedback, and squashing bugs, Longvinter has triumphantly exited early access on Steam with the launch of version 1.0. The developers proudly announced this significant milestone, introducing a plethora of updates designed to rejuvenate the experience for both new and veteran players.

The most notable addition in this update is the introduction of oil rigs scattered throughout the archipelago. Players can now delve into the exciting task of extracting oil, refining it into fuel, and engaging in thrilling battles against mercenaries from the notorious Longvinter Resource Initiative (LRI) who control crucial supply lines. Adding to the excitement, new events such as helicopter crashes offer opportunities to scavenge tactical gear, while an underground arena provides hourly battles where players can compete for valuable rewards.

The game world has been significantly enriched with the addition of new wildlife species, including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats. These animals can now be tamed and used as mounts, adding a new layer of interaction and strategy to the game. Alongside these creatures, the update introduces a variety of new items to enhance gameplay. Players can now equip buff-providing hats, combat vests, and an array of new weapons and explosives. For those interested in culinary arts, new kitchen recipes have been added. Additionally, players can now build and decorate with new interactive objects such as oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and turrets. The update also brings significant changes to weapon balance, ensuring a fresh and dynamic combat experience.

Looking to the future, the upcoming 1.1 update promises to introduce farming mechanics, allowing players to cultivate their own resources. A revamped tutorial will ease new players into the game, while apartment rentals and shared communities will enhance the social aspects of Longvinter. The developers have also confirmed that Longvinter will expand its reach beyond PC players, with a planned launch on PlayStation in 2026.
