Marvel Brings Back Baddie From 2008's Iron Man for MCU Vision Quest Series

by Henry Feb 19,2025

Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.

Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of an Afghan terrorist group who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. His character, betrayed by Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), hasn't been seen since. This marks a return to the MCU after nearly two decades, mirroring the reappearance of Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.

The Vision Quest series, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision following the events of WandaVision, currently lacks a release date.

While initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched in Phase 4. The group he led was later revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection initially subtle but significantly expanded upon in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This suggests a potential link between Vision Quest and Shang-Chi, possibly through al-Wazar's continued involvement with the Ten Rings.

Alternatively, Vision Quest might follow in the footsteps of Deadpool & Wolverine, exploring previously overlooked or discarded elements of the MCU's established continuity.

The series will also reportedly feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about the show remain scarce.
