Marvel Rivals mods with Trump and Biden removed, Nexus Mods owner threatened

Nexus Mods, a popular modding site, finds itself at the center of a heated controversy after removing over 500 user-submitted modifications for the game Marvel Rivals in a single month. The catalyst? Two mods replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

The platform's owner, known as TheDarkOne, addressed the situation on Reddit, clarifying that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of partisan favoritism. TheDarkOne stated, "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason YouTube bloggers are silent about it."

However, this action has not quelled the backlash. TheDarkOne revealed receiving a torrent of online abuse following the removals, including death threats and accusations of pedophilia. "Today we write death threats, call us pedophiles and all sorts of insults just because someone decided to stir up this topic," they added.

This isn't the first time Nexus Mods has faced criticism over mod removals. A similar incident occurred in 2022, involving a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags. The platform's stance on inclusivity and its rejection of content deemed discriminatory was clearly stated at that time.

TheDarkOne concluded with a statement reflecting the platform's unwavering commitment to its policies: "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar."
