Marvel Rivals Reveals How Often Fans Can Expect New Heroes

Marvel Rivals: An Ambitious Hero Release Schedule

Marvel Rivals, the hit third-person hero shooter launched in December 2024, boasts an impressive roster of 33 playable heroes. But the game's developers at NetEase have even more ambitious plans. According to Game Director Guangyun Chen, new heroes are slated for release approximately every 45 days, resulting in a staggering eight new heroes per year. This surpasses the yearly output of competitors like Overwatch 2.

The game's first season is already underway, showcasing this rapid release schedule. The Fantastic Four are the first post-launch additions, with Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman already available, and The Thing and Human Torch expected in the latter half of Season 1. Season 1 also includes two new New York City maps.

This aggressive release strategy has sparked debate among fans. While NetEase has access to a vast library of Marvel characters, including lesser-known heroes like Jeff the Shark and Squirrel Girl, concerns remain about the feasibility of thorough playtesting and balancing for each new hero within the 45-day timeframe. With 37 heroes and approximately 100 abilities to consider, the development team faces a significant challenge. The question arises: does NetEase possess a substantial reserve of pre-developed heroes to sustain this pace?

The upcoming release of the remaining Fantastic Four members marks a key milestone in Season 1. Players can anticipate further updates, potentially including new maps or in-game events, in the season's second half. Fans are encouraged to follow Marvel Rivals' social media for the latest news.
