Marvel Snap Blocked in US Over TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, but it is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. This connection led to Marvel Snap being banned alongside other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8, resulting in its discontinuation from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This sudden unavailability has sparked widespread frustration among players, many of whom are encountering authorization issues. However, PC gamers can still access Marvel Snap on Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise at the situation and are actively working to reinstate the game. In an official statement, a representative from Platform X affirmed their commitment to the game's future:

“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”

One of the most frustrating elements for players was the lack of prior warning about the ban. As a result, many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout. Besides Marvel Snap, other ByteDance apps were affected, though not all; for example, Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible.

In other Marvel Snap news, we recently discussed the introduction of the ongoing card Moonstone. As part of the game's Ongoing archetype, Moonstone's addition is highly anticipated. With her stats as a 4-cost, 6-power card, Moonstone can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. Given the existing pool of low-cost Ongoing cards in Marvel Snap, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which typically boost power, Moonstone's ability to freely acquire these effects can significantly enhance her performance and potentially shake up the meta.
