When it comes to Kemco, I often find their releases both comforting and predictable. Their JRPGs from Japan are consistently high-quality, yet they tend to stick to familiar high-fantasy and melodramatic themes. However, their latest upcoming title, Metro Quester, breaks the mold and has caught my attention. Set to launch on April 21st, with pre-registration already open, this game promises a fresh take on the genre.
In Metro Quester, developed by Thousand Games, you're thrown into a post-apocalyptic future, but with a unique twist. Instead of exploring above ground and venturing into ruins, you'll be navigating the dense dungeons of ancient metro systems and pre-apocalyptic ruins, reminiscent of Glukhovsky's Metro series. This underground setting offers a thrilling dungeon-crawling RPG experience.
The game boasts character designs by Kazushi Hagiwara, known for his work on Bastard!! The Dark God of Destruction, among others. This collaboration ensures a high-quality, albeit dark and gloomy, world for players to explore. With 24 characters, 8 classes, customizable weapons, and a comprehensive bestiary, Metro Quester is packed with content.

Kemco stands out with Metro Quester, which I was genuinely excited to see in my inbox. It's poised to be a standout in Kemco's lineup, blending a dark atmosphere with retro top-down dungeon crawling. While the game retains that familiar anime style, it's unlikely to deter fans of the genre. If you're seeking something new and intriguing to add to your JRPG collection, mark your calendar for Metro Quester's release on April 21st.
