Monster Hunter Wilds Surpasses 8 Million Units Sold in 3 Days and Is the Fastest Capcom Game to Do So

by Isabella Apr 04,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has not only surpassed eight million units sold in just three days, but it has also become the fastest Capcom game ever to reach this milestone. This impressive achievement outpaces the sales records of previous titles in the series, with Monster Hunter World shipping five million copies in 2018 and Monster Hunter Rise shipping four million in 2021.

These staggering numbers are hardly surprising, given that Monster Hunter Wilds soared past one million concurrent players on Steam during its opening weekend. The game even surpassed Cyberpunk 2077, securing its position as the 7th most-played game ever on the platform. Furthermore, Wilds played a pivotal role in helping Steam achieve a record-breaking 40 million concurrent players for the first time.

In our review of Monster Hunter Wilds, we noted that the game "continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge." This suggests that while the game has made significant strides in enhancing the overall experience, it might not offer the same level of difficulty that some fans have come to expect from the series.

Capcom also shared that the Monster Hunter franchise, which debuted in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, has now exceeded 108 million units sold as of December 31, 2024. This milestone underscores the enduring popularity and success of the series over the years.
