The Ninja Gaiden franchise is back thanks to Phil Spencer

Team Ninja's long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon, a project years in the making, according to producer Fumihiko Yasuda. The studio struggled to solidify a concept until conversations involving Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma, PlatinumGames head Atsushi Inaba, and ultimately, Xbox's Phil Spencer, led to a collaborative effort between the three companies.

Spencer confirmed discussions began as early as 2017, culminating in the perfect partnership with PlatinumGames, renowned for its high-octane action titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata. This collaboration brought Ninja Gaiden 4 to fruition, alongside a surprise re-release of the enhanced Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Initial trailers showcase Ryu Hayabusa's return as the protagonist in this action-packed slasher. Gameplay footage reveals innovative mechanics, including agile traversal using wires and rails, setting it apart from previous installments.

While DOOM: The Dark Ages dominated headlines at Developer_Direct, the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, a highly anticipated addition to the Koei Tecmo franchise, generated considerable excitement. The game is slated for release in Fall 2025.
