Nintendo Breaks Silence on Leaked Switch 2 Rumors

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following the emergence of Switch 2 images at CES 2025, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in the show, therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from CES 2025 should not be considered official. This statement, while seemingly obvious, is unusual for Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to leaks.

Rumors and leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been circulating since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES, sparking widespread online discussion.

Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply labeled the Genki replica images as "not official." The company further emphasized its absence from CES 2025, reiterating that the showcased images are not official promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and speculation. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also mentioned other potential features, including magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and their potential use as a mouse, claims supported by other sources.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
