Nintendo Switch 2 Enhances Original Games

Alongside a resolution upgrade to 1440p in TV mode and improved frame rates, players can enjoy new minigames and enhanced online functionalities.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a cross-gen title, will support Joy-Con 2's mouse controls and offer multiple display modes, including Quality Mode (60fps at 4K when docked, 60fps at 1080p in handheld) and Performance Mode (120fps at 1080p when docked, 120fps at 720p in handheld), all with HDR support.

Set for release on June 5, 2025, the Switch 2 will see the debut of its first batch of Switch 2 Edition games. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will launch their Switch 2 Editions on the same day.

Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV will follow on July 24, 2025, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land's update is slated for August 28, 2025. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are expected to release their Switch 2 Editions sometime in 2025, though specific dates have not been announced.

The cost of Switch 2 Editions varies. New buyers can purchase these games at retail, identifiable by their red-colored physical cases and prominent Switch 2 logos on digital versions. Owners of the Switch 1 versions seeking the Switch 2 Edition upgrades will need to buy an upgrade pack, available at select retailers, the My Nintendo Store, and Nintendo eShop.
