Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con in Today's App

by Brooklyn Apr 27,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to earlier rumors. The confirmation comes from the newly released Nintendo Today! app, available on both the App Store and Google Play. A closer look at the app's promotional images reveals the letter "C" clearly marked on the button.

The C button was first showcased alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the new Joy-Con did not feature any lettering on the button. However, consistent with prior reports, it has now been officially named the "C" button.

Speculation abounds regarding the purpose of this new C button. Theories suggest it could be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV, facilitating screen sharing, or altering the Joy-Con's functionality, such as switching to a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might enhance group or voice chat features.

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. In the meantime, here's what we know for certain about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that appear capable of functioning as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, some older games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
