If we had to pick the most striking and memorable trailer from the recent State of Play, the top spot undoubtedly goes to the new installment in the Onimusha series, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This game introduces its protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, in a thrilling manner.
For Musashi's character model, Capcom masterfully utilized the likeness of the legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. The trailer showcases Musashi's fierce combat skills as he slashes through demons that have emerged from the depths of hell into the ancient city of Kyoto. Yet, in a delightful twist, there are moments where he humorously tries to escape from his monstrous foes, adding a layer of levity to the intense action.
The storyline reveals that through his unwavering faith, Musashi becomes the wielder of the Oni Gauntlet. His mission is to battle the monstrous entities that now inhabit the world of the living, absorbing their souls to not only restore his own health but also to unleash powerful special abilities. This mechanic adds a strategic depth to the gameplay, making each encounter a thrilling challenge.
In addition to the new game, we were treated to a trailer for the Onimusha 2 remaster. The juxtaposition of these two trailers vividly illustrates the leaps in graphical fidelity that have occurred over the years. The contrast between the original and the remastered version of Onimusha 2 is a testament to the advancements in video game technology, showcasing how far we've come in terms of visual storytelling and immersive gaming experiences.
