PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming with Beta Updates, Adds Gameplay Capture

by Aaliyah May 24,2025

Sony is enhancing the user experience for PlayStation Portal users through a new update to its Cloud Streaming Beta. This update, rolling out later today, introduces several improvements to the remote play system's cloud capabilities.

One of the key features in this update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Users can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or by the most recent additions to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and find the games they want to play.

Another significant addition is the ability to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Users can utilize the familiar create menu to take screenshots or record video clips, with support for video clips up to 1920x1080 resolution and lasting up to three minutes. This feature enhances the way players can share and save their gaming moments.

The update also introduces a pause functionality for gameplay. The game will pause automatically when users access the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode via the power button, or encounter a system error message. However, if the Portal remains in rest mode for over 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. It's important to note that this pause feature is not supported during online multiplayer sessions.

Additional updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and new user feedback tools. Sony has expressed its commitment to continuously refining and expanding the feature set based on user input.

The Cloud Streaming Beta remains exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly to their PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into a more versatile standalone cloud streaming device, and Sony appears dedicated to further developing this functionality.

As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's offerings evolve in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture and share numerous screenshots during streaming sessions is a welcome addition for users.
