Sony recently shed light on the cause of the PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that disrupted services for nearly a full day over the weekend. In a social media update, the company attributed the issue to an "operational problem" but did not delve into specifics or outline measures to prevent future occurrences.
To make amends, Sony is offering PlayStation Plus subscribers an additional five days of subscription time, which will be automatically credited to their accounts.
During the outage, a significant number of players faced difficulties, with over a third unable to log in and others reporting frequent server crashes, severely impacting their gaming experience.
The necessity of a PSN account for playing even single-player games on PC has been a point of contention among the gaming community, and this recent outage has only amplified those concerns.
This incident is not an isolated event for PSN. A notable precedent was the massive data breach in April 2011, which resulted in over 20 days of service disruption. While the current situation is less severe, PS5 users are expressing dissatisfaction with Sony's lack of detailed communication and transparency.
