Pokemon TCG Vending Machines: A Guide for Collectors

If you're a Pokemon fan with a social media presence, you've likely encountered posts about Pokemon vending machines. As The Pokemon Company expands their US rollout, many fans have questions – and we have the answers.

What are Pokemon Vending Machines?

Pokemon vending machines dispense Pokemon merchandise, much like a soda machine, though at a higher price point. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially piloted in Washington in 2017. This successful trial led to wider deployment in grocery stores nationwide.

These machines are easily recognizable with their vibrant colors and clear Pokemon branding. Their touchscreen interface offers a user-friendly experience, allowing browsing and selection of TCG products before credit card checkout. The process is enhanced by charming Pokemon animations. A digital receipt is emailed upon purchase, though returns are not accepted.

Primarily, US Pokemon vending machines stock Pokemon TCG products, including Elite Trainer Boxes, booster packs, and related items. Stock levels vary, but a recent observation showed good availability even during a busy holiday shopping period, though newer Elite Trainer Boxes were sold out. Unlike some Pokemon Center machines in Washington, these generally do not sell plushies, apparel, or video games. The trend seems to be towards these more streamlined, TCG-focused machines.

Locating a Nearby Machine

A comprehensive list of operational US Pokemon TCG vending machines is available on the Pokemon Center website. Currently, machines are located across various states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. The website allows you to check for nearby locations by state, showing participating stores. Distribution is currently concentrated in specific cities within each state, primarily within partner grocery store chains such as Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb.

For those without local access, the Pokemon Center website allows you to follow the locations list for notifications of new machine additions.
