The eagerly anticipated Ratatan, a spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just unveiled its official gameplay trailer. During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, developer Ratatan Works treated fans to a thrilling glimpse of the game in action. The trailer spotlighted a gripping battle against a colossal boss crab, showcasing the game's unique blend of rhythm roguelike elements with side-scrolling action.
Ratatan promises an engaging experience with its rhythm-based gameplay and online co-op support for up to four players. Players will have the chance to command up to 100 characters in intense melee battles. The game is crafted by none other than Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and features music by the original Patapon composer, Kemmei Adachi. Since its Kickstarter launch in 2023, Ratatan has successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its arrival on gaming consoles.

Ratatan's closed beta is scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025, as announced on their Kickstarter page. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates about the game's progress, including surpassing 100,000 wishlists on Steam and receiving positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, Ratatan will not be part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team's focus is on refining the closed beta experience. A better demo version is planned for the Steam Next festival in June.
Sakajiri outlined what players can expect during the closed beta. The initial build will allow access up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added progressively over the month-long test period. Details regarding code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared via Discord and X once finalized.
Set to launch in 2025, Ratatan will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has not yet been announced, the anticipation for this rhythm-action game continues to build among fans eager to dive into its vibrant world.
