Get ready to dive into a new chapter of the Resident Evil universe with Resident Evil Survival Unit, the franchise’s first mobile strategy game, set to launch in late 2025. Developed in collaboration between Capcom, Aniplex, and JOYCITY, and led by former Square Enix producer and Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto, this upcoming title introduces a fresh take on survival horror through strategic gameplay. Discover what makes this game stand out and learn how you can get involved through its ongoing pre-registration campaign.
Resident Evil Survival Unit redefines the iconic series by blending tactical strategy with the signature pandemic horror that fans know and love. During the official announcement livestream on July 10, Shinji Hashimoto shared his vision for the game, emphasizing the strategic depth that complements the survival horror experience.
He explained, "The concept of pandemic horror naturally aligns with survival and planning—core elements of strategy games. This allows players around the world to engage with the Resident Evil universe in a collaborative and uniquely tactical way, offering a fresh perspective compared to previous entries."
While staying true to the legacy of the franchise, RE Survival Unit unfolds through a parallel storyline that exists outside the main series canon, giving players a new lens through which to experience the terror of the Resident Evil world.
The narrative of Resident Evil Survival Unit is set in a parallel dimension closely aligned with the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. JOYCITY Producer Kyle Dongkyun emphasized that while the story diverges from the original timeline, the game faithfully preserves the core themes, characters, and atmosphere that define the series.
Players assume the role of a protagonist who awakens in a hospital facility secretly operated by the Umbrella Corporation. Held captive for experimental purposes, your mission begins with a desperate escape from an abandoned asylum filled with deadly secrets, traps, and bio-organic horrors. Overcoming these threats will require careful planning, resource management, and tactical decision-making.
Classic Resident Evil elements such as hidden easter eggs, intricate puzzles, and cryptic clues are woven throughout the gameplay, ensuring longtime fans feel right at home.
At the heart of the game lies the Mansion—a fully interactive base of operations that serves as the central hub for all strategic activities. Here, players can manage their team, upgrade equipment, and plan missions with precision.
The Mansion also hosts a roster of beloved Resident Evil characters, each offering unique dialogue and interactions. It’s more than just a safe zone—it’s a living world shaped by your choices. As Dongkyun stated, "This game is built to reflect your decisions. You have the freedom to forge your own tactical path and create a playstyle that’s uniquely yours."
Iconic figures such as Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine will appear, each equipped with distinct abilities and skill sets. Assemble your dream squad, experiment with team compositions, and deploy them against the horrors lurking in the shadows.

One of the most exciting artistic highlights of RE Survival Unit is the involvement of legendary Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano—renowned for his iconic work on Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D, and numerous classic anime titles. Amano has contributed an original creature design that plays a pivotal role in the game’s story.
Introducing Mortem, a chilling entity crafted with Amano’s signature ethereal and surreal style. He shared his creative philosophy: "When designing a creature, you often define its form. But in this case, I believed fear lies in the unknown. I wanted to evoke unease—a shadowy presence that suggests what it might be, without ever fully revealing it."
All enemy designs are the result of close collaboration between Capcom, Aniplex, and JOYCITY, ensuring that the game’s horror elements remain authentic while embracing a new artistic direction.

With Resident Evil Survival Unit, Capcom continues its mission to expand the Resident Evil universe across multiple platforms and genres.
