"Roia: Emoak's Newest Indie Mobile Game Offers Tranquility"

One of the most thrilling aspects of mobile gaming is its ability to drive innovation in game design. The unique, buttonless interface of smartphones, combined with their widespread accessibility, has pushed video games into new and exciting territories. A prime example of this is Roia, the latest creation from the innovative indie studio Emoak, known for titles like Paper Climb, Machinaero, and the acclaimed light-based puzzle game Lyxo.

Surprisingly, Roia centers around the simple yet profound task of creating a river. The game starts with a stream at the top of a mountain, and your mission is to guide this water gently towards the sea by manipulating the landscape with your finger.

Emoak's press release for Roia shares that the game holds deep personal meaning for one of its lead designers, Tobias Sturn. As a child, Sturn played in the creek behind his grandparents' home, experimenting with homemade waterwheels, bridges, and other devices built with his grandfather. These experiences shaped his understanding of water flow and accumulation. Tragically, Sturn's grandfather passed away during the development of Roia, but the joyful memories from those days are evident throughout the game, which is dedicated to his memory.

Classifying Roia in terms of gameplay is challenging. While there are puzzles and obstacles to navigate on your journey to guide the river to the sea, the real essence of the game is relaxation. You'll travel through beautifully crafted settings like forests, meadows, and charming villages, guided by a helpful white bird that gently nudges you towards the correct actions.

A glance at the screenshots might have already hinted that Roia shares the elegant, minimalist aesthetic of games like Monument Valley. Beyond its visual appeal, the game's audio experience is equally impressive, featuring a moving soundtrack composed by Johannes Johannson, who previously worked on Emoak's Lyxo.

You can experience Roia yourself by downloading it from the Google Play Store or the App Store for $2.99.
