Rumor: Rocksteady Studios is developing a new Batman game

by Emily Mar 28,2025

According to acclaimed journalist Jason Schreier, the beloved studio Rocksteady is currently developing a brand-new single-player Batman game. While details are limited, Schreier hasn't specified if this project will be a prequel, a direct continuation of the iconic Arkham saga, or set in a completely different universe. However, an insider source suggests that Rocksteady might be working on a game centered around Batman Beyond, which would take players into a futuristic vision of Gotham. The ambition for this project is significant, with plans for a full-blown trilogy. Fans can anticipate the game to launch on the next generation of consoles.

The Arkham series was celebrated for its stunning visuals, and a futuristic Gotham could potentially be Rocksteady's most visually striking project yet. The move to Batman Beyond also addresses a challenging issue: the iconic voice of Batman. Following the passing of the legendary Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio may choose to focus on characters like Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne, a strategy similar to what Warner Bros. Montreal had planned for its canceled sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight.

Rocksteady's last endeavor, an online shooter, did not meet expectations, resulting in a flop that led to the studio abandoning its post-launch plans within a year. The story concluded abruptly with a rushed animation that reversed several controversial plot developments, revealing that the fallen heroes were actually clones.

Now, Rocksteady is returning to its roots with a new solo Batman adventure. However, insiders caution that this eagerly awaited project is still several years away from release.
