RuneScape: Dragonwilds has thrilled fans with a surprise early access announcement. On April 16, during a livestream, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible on Steam for early access, a mere few weeks following its first trailer release.

The community was taken aback, especially since the game had only been available for wishlisting on Steam starting April 1, with its first official gameplay teaser unveiled on April 2. Although introduced in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began accepting signups for alpha testing of a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game was officially named RuneScape: Dragonwilds on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Full Release in Early 2026

Jagex has set sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience. Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds offers a fresh RuneScape experience aimed at both long-time fans and newcomers.

"We're dedicated to continuously enhancing the game throughout Early Access with regular updates, new content, and features, all while closely engaging with our community to craft an open-world survival game that resonates with everyone," America stated.

Early Access Roadmap Unveiled

Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, detailing what's in store for players. A highlight is the introduction of the Fellhollow region, a mystical land bridging life and death, governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. This area is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld, with the iconic character Death accompanying players on their journey.

The roadmap promises new quests, lore, gear, and music, along with expanded skills in magic, ranged, and farming. Players can look forward to battling new Lesser Dragons, equipping dragon slayer gear, and exploring new modes like hardcore and creative. While specific release dates for these updates remain undisclosed, Jagex assures continuous enhancements.
