by Grace Apr 27,2025

Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast along with a brand-new teaser trailer, sparking varied reactions, including from Movie Sonic, who seems unsure about Shrek's updated appearance.

In a light-hearted video posted to TikTok, the Sonic Movie account humorously offered "advice for green ogres," showcasing Movie Sonic's own transformation from his controversial original live-action design to the much more favorably received revised version.

IGN provided the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018. The initial design of Sonic, with his distinctive teeth, physique, small eyes, and human-like fingers, received mixed feedback from fans. In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler opted to revise the design of the iconic character, promising a more authentic look that was much better received.

Although the reaction to Shrek's new look isn't as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful response has certainly entertained fans. One viewer commented, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.

PlayThe fifth installment of the Shrek series was first announced in 2016, but updates were scarce until Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development in 2023, alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has shifted Shrek 5's release to December 23, 2026, and placed the Despicable 3 spin-off, Minions 3, in its original release slot.
