Pokemon TCG Pocket's Trading Feature Faces Backlash, Prompts Developer Response

DeNA, the developer of Pokemon TCG Pocket, has pledged improvements to the game's trading feature following significant player criticism. The controversy centers around the recent implementation of the trading system, released on January 29, 2025, alongside the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs.

High Cost of Trade Tokens Fuels Player Frustration

The core complaint revolves around the exorbitant cost of acquiring trade tokens, the in-game currency required for trading. Players can only trade 1-4 Diamond and 1-Star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island packs. While helpful for Pokedex completion, the limitations and high token costs have caused widespread dissatisfaction. Obtaining sufficient tokens necessitates sacrificing higher-rarity cards, a process many players find unreasonable. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while selling a 1-Star card yields only 100.

In response to the negative feedback, DeNA acknowledged the concerns and announced plans to introduce multiple ways to earn trade tokens, including through events. The developer also clarified that the restrictive rules were implemented to deter bot activity and multi-account exploitation, aiming to maintain a fair and enjoyable card-collecting experience.

Genetic Apex Booster Pack Accessibility Concerns

A separate issue arose concerning the apparent disappearance of the Genetic Apex booster packs from the main screen following the Space-Time Smackdown release. Players expressed worry on Reddit about the accessibility of the initial booster pack. While the packs remain accessible via a less prominent "Select other booster packs" option, the poor visibility led to confusion and speculation of intentional removal to promote the newer packs.

Players suggested improving the home screen display to showcase all available booster packs to prevent future misunderstandings. Although DeNA hasn't directly addressed this, the clarification regarding the continued availability of Genetic Apex packs should alleviate some player concerns.
