Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse range of characters, each with unique playstyles, to combat the formidable Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward, but the process isn't explicitly detailed in-game. This guide aims to clarify how players can unlock new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker. We will update this guide as more characters become available.
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which drop exclusively from defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before facing these bosses, you'll need Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can find Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter. Here, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to make them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in the game, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method to unlock the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker is equipped with a SyCom, which not only defines their base stats but also their core perk, influencing their playstyle significantly. Here's a detailed look at each character and their unique attributes:
Vermillion is the starting character, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which is tailored for ranged combat. His Rail shots have a chance to crit, and a critical hit guarantees the next shot will also crit, making him excellent for players who enjoy shooting from a distance.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom. This SyCom rewards perfect parries with increased armor and offers better defensive and melee stats than Gunslinger, providing a safer playstyle.
Lapis begins with the Lightweaver SyCom, enhancing the damage of her Rail shots after collecting a Battery. Her unique feature is the Warrior SyCom, which boosts her core stats with each upgrade, making her increasingly powerful as the game progresses.
With either SyCom, Lapis is a formidable character, but the Warrior SyCom turns her into a powerhouse, outshining others in raw stats when fully upgraded.
Goro is designed for players who favor ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up the charging of his Blade skills while shooting. His unlockable Sniper SyCom increases his critical hit rate, further emphasizing his role as a ranged specialist.
Goro falls into the category of a ranged glass cannon, boasting higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis. However, his lack of a defensive SyCom means he requires careful play. If mastered, Goro can be an exceptionally effective fighter.
