Nightmare Tempest Mephis could be an excellent replacement for the main 4-slot Echo of Electro characters in Wuthering Waves. Not only does it provide additional stats, but it can also potentially make certain damage rotations much stronger compared to its regular counterpart (plus, it's shinier than usual).
All Nightmare Echoes in Wuthering Waves provide similar bonuses, but while most are easy to reach, Nightmare Tempest Mephis is locked behind a few subtle steps. Here's what you need to do to unlock this boss.
This formidable boss awaits in the expansive, circular arena located in the Shores of Last Breath within the Fagaceae Peninsula. However, accessing Nightmare Tempest Mephis involves a couple of prerequisites.
Firstly, you must complete the "Where Winds Return to Celestial Realms" quest in WuWa. This exploration quest, set in the Shores of Last Breath, is primarily combat-focused and can be completed in one go, though it may take some time. Completing this quest is crucial, as the arena where Nightmare Tempest Mephis resides will remain inaccessible until you finish it.
Secondly, you need to uncover all the Dream Patrols scattered throughout the Shores of Last Breath. Simply locating these patrols and having them appear on your map is sufficient; you don't need to complete them. Once you've discovered all the patrols, a notification will inform you that Nightmare Tempest Mephis is now available, and you can engage it at the location shown in the image above.
Whether or not to utilize Nightmare Tempest Mephis hinges on the stats you receive from your Echo drops and the specific Wuthering Waves character you're aiming to enhance. When placed in the main Echo slot, Nightmare Tempest Mephis inherently boosts characters' Electro DMG and can be part of either the Void Thunder or Empyrean Anthem Sonata sets. The Void Thunder set is generally beneficial for all Electro damage dealers, whereas the Empyrean Anthem set is particularly advantageous for characters capable of Coordinated Attacks, such as Yinlin and Yuanwu.
Moreover, Nightmare Tempest Mephis features a unique transformation attack, distinct from its standard version, which may enable more effective rotations for specific characters or team compositions. Combined with the passive Electro DMG bonus, this makes Nightmare Echoes a compelling choice for many characters.
However, it's essential to prioritize Echoes with superior stats. If your Nightmare Tempest Mephis has inferior stats compared to a regular variant, you may achieve better overall performance by opting for the standard version.
