The Dark Knight's reign in the video game world was once a consistent stream of new titles. Rocksteady's Batman Arkham series, in particular, revolutionized superhero gaming, setting a high bar that continues to influence the genre.
But lately, Batman has been noticeably absent from the spotlight. A truly standalone Batman game hasn't been released since 2017's The Enemy Within, and there's no immediate indication of that changing. While comic book fans have plenty of exciting superhero games on the horizon, those craving a Batman experience might need to delve into the back catalog to find the best titles.
Updated December 23, 2024 by Mark Sammut: Despite the recent lull in new Batman games, 2024 surprisingly saw the Caped Crusader make a significant appearance. He featured in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, though this Rocksteady title isn't strictly a solo Batman adventure. However, the Arkhamverse expanded with a new VR entry. This review has been updated to reflect this release, with added detail and image galleries for several top-tier Batman games.
