How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

One of the initial significant hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the battle against Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide provides a strategic approach to defeating him.

Phase 1: A One-on-One Duel

This phase unfolds as a solo confrontation in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, hurling stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:

  • Close Range: He summons four stones, demanding swift evasion.
  • Long Range: He summons eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.

Maintain a safe distance when he unleashes a large volley of stones to avoid substantial damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao possesses close-combat attacks, including simple parries and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback. A white glow signals his charging AOE attack; retreat immediately.

His red-aura attacks are unblockable. These involve summoning a large rockfall and multiple clones. The best counter is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. Equip a sword for optimal damage output compared to spears or gauntlets.

Resource Management is crucial. Depending on skill upgrades, you likely have limited healing opportunities (around four). Meat buns are available near the arena entrance; utilize them strategically during recovery periods.

Phase 2: Aided Assault

Upon activating Musou Rage, Phase 2 commences with the Yellow Turbans joining Zhang Jiao. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite. This is an ideal time to replenish health using the meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes to disrupt your attacks; be mindful of the wind's effect.

Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, requiring you to eliminate 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he summons lightning strikes; observe the ground for warning rings before evading. Musou Mode, if timed effectively, can decimate large groups of soldiers. However, given the time constraint, standard Musou Mode is likely more efficient.

After thwarting two Grand Tactics, Zhang Jiao returns with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, defeating him should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.

Victory Achieved!

This strategy will help you triumph over Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
