The Witcher 4 was first unveiled at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the game's protagonist. This revelation sparked significant discussion within the gaming community, as previous games centered around Geralt.

Following the announcement, VGC conducted an interview with The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, regarding the fan response to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber acknowledged the fans' attachment to Geralt but emphasized the team's commitment to delivering a compelling narrative with Ciri.

Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed appreciation for the fans who supported the decision to feature Ciri as the lead. He noted, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

CD Projekt Red aims to make The Witcher 4 the most ambitious entry in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not been announced. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest information on The Witcher 4.
