Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The iconic phrases "Among men, Lu Bu. Among horses, Red Hare" and "Do not pursue Lu Bu," prevalent throughout Dynasty Warriors: Origins, clearly warn against engaging Lu Bu. However, if you're up for the challenge, this guide provides a strategic approach.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

Battling Lu Bu is incredibly challenging; defeating him can take over an hour. However, there are compelling reasons to face him:

  • Bragging Rights: Overcoming Lu Bu is a significant accomplishment.
  • Plot Progression: Allying with Shu or Wei necessitates fighting Lu Bu in Chapter 4 (Battle of Xiapi).
  • Rewards: Defeating him at Hulao Gate grants the "The Strongest" trophy. Post-game victory unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd.

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Before the battle, optimize your equipment:

  • Weapon: A multi-hit sword to stagger him.
  • Battle Arts: Quick-activating, wide-range arts with low Bravery requirements (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash).
  • Accessories: Items boosting health and defense (e.g., Divine Bird’s Wing, Divine Turtle’s Shell).
  • Weapon Skill: Bravery gain on Perfect Evades.

Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. He's fast but pauses occasionally. Exploit these pauses to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks, except for Red Hare's aerial dive, have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts, intensifying the battle.

Phase 2: Lu Bu on Foot

Dismounted, Lu Bu becomes incredibly aggressive. His attacks are swift, and he frequently moves rapidly across the battlefield, sometimes with a red aura indicating invulnerability to stuns. Evade his charges (he typically charges in sets of three). A grab attack, easily evaded, is also part of his repertoire.

His most dangerous move involves an orange glow, followed by three devastating ranged arrow volleys. Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter this. Close-range arts are highly risky. Keep your Musou gauge full for emergency invincibility.

Lu Bu is surprisingly juggleable in this phase. Sustained attacks quickly refill your Battle Arts, accelerating the depletion of his Fortitude meter. Maintain close proximity for better reaction time. Prioritize evasion.

Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage

Once Lu Bu's health is sufficiently low, his Musou Rage activates. He becomes unstaggerable, unleashing relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he unleashes his Musou attack (which, if successful, immediately resets the phase). Use all available resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes – to overcome him.

Victory!

By following these strategies, you can successfully defeat Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
