Elden Ring Patch Streamlines DLC for Seamless Gameplay

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Receives Difficulty-Easing Update

FromSoftware has released Elden Ring update 1.12.2, aiming to alleviate some of the DLC's challenging aspects, particularly in the early and late stages. While praised by many, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion's difficulty has drawn criticism, prompting some players to review-bomb the game on Steam.

This update directly addresses player feedback regarding difficulty. It significantly boosts the attack power and damage reduction provided by Shadow Realm Blessings (like Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes) during the first half of their enhancement levels. The latter half of the enhancements will now scale more gradually, and the final level also receives a slight increase. This should make the initial encounters and final boss battles considerably less arduous.

Interestingly, FromSoftware also had to remind players to utilize Scadutree Fragments, a new collectible item found within the DLC that enhances damage output and damage negation when used at Sites of Grace. The update makes these fragments even more impactful.

The patch notes also highlight a bug affecting PC players: ray tracing automatically activates when loading saved data from older versions. This has caused framerate issues for some, and players are urged to manually disable ray tracing in the graphics settings if experiencing problems.

Future updates are promised, focusing on further bug fixes and additional balance adjustments. The full patch notes are below:

Elden Ring Update 1.12.2 Patch Notes

  • Shadow Realm Blessing Adjustments: The attack and damage negation scaling of Shadow Realm Blessings has been revised. The first half of maximum enhancement levels now provides increased attack and damage negation, with a more gradual increase in the second half. The final enhancement level also sees a slight buff.

  • Multiplayer Server Requirement: The calibration update requires logging into the multiplayer server. Check the bottom right of the title menu; if "Calibration Ver." isn't "1.12.2," log in to apply the update.

About graphics settings (PC version only)

  • Ray Tracing Bug Fix: A bug causing ray tracing to automatically enable when loading saved data from older versions has been fixed. Check and disable ray tracing in 'SYSTEM' > 'Graphics Settings' > 'Raytracing Quality' if experiencing framerate issues.

  • Future Updates: Further balance adjustments and bug fixes are planned for future patches.
