EVA Crossover Disappoints NIKKE Players

Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Evangelion collaboration fell short of expectations, according to a recent interview with the game's producer. The August 2024 crossover, featuring Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato, missed the mark due to several factors.

Design Discrepancies: Initial character designs, created collaboratively by Shift Up and NIKKE's team, were deemed too provocative by Evangelion's creators. Subsequent adjustments, while satisfying the licensors, failed to resonate with players. The resulting designs, while faithful to the source material, lacked the appeal that fans expected.

Lack of Incentive: Players felt little motivation to invest in the limited-time characters and costumes. Asuka's gacha skin, the most expensive option, bore too close a resemblance to her standard model, offering insufficient visual distinction to justify the cost.

Identity Dilution: The collaboration, along with other recent crossovers, is perceived as diluting NIKKE's core identity – its distinctive, over-the-top anime aesthetic and compelling narrative. The Evangelion event, considered drawn-out and uninspired, further contributed to this negative perception.

Looking Ahead: Shift Up acknowledges player feedback and promises improvements in future collaborations. The hope is that future events will deliver more compelling content, retaining the game's established strengths.

You can download Neon Genesis Evangelion and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE from the Google Play Store. The expectation is that Shift Up will learn from this experience and deliver more engaging content in the coming months.
