"Fallout 76: New Ghoul Update Revealed"

Fallout 76 Season 20: Embrace the Ghoul Life in a Radiation-Infested Wasteland

Fallout 76 Season 20, aptly named "The Ghoul Within," is now live, offering players an unprecedented opportunity to transform into a Ghoul and explore a radiation-soaked Appalachia. Bethesda's detailed article from March 18th outlines the exciting ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics that players can use to revamp their C.A.M.P.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

The highlight of the update is the ability to undergo Ghoulification through the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey takes players to a new area in the Savage Divide, introducing them to unique characters that assist in this transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, or "Gherks."

The Feral ability introduces a new dynamic by replacing the traditional hunger and thirst stats with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive various boosts. However, letting it drop to 0% drastically alters gameplay: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

Conversely, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causing them to glow visibly. This ability also enhances maximum health, heals damage, and synergizes with the new Gherks.

Players can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls. However, Ghouls cannot access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new state.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new abilities and perks. However, certain factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, may react hostilely to Ghouls, potentially locking players out of some questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye provides disguises, allowing players to access content that would otherwise be unavailable.

If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, reverting to a human is possible via the Character Screen, though this is a permanent decision. Players interested in re-experiencing Ghoulification can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

Season 20 introduces the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms, designed to accelerate players' journeys through Appalachia. This boost enables immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.

The patch also includes numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat tweaks, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also teased the next update, "The Big Bloom," scheduled for April 29th, as part of their ongoing season calendar.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen continuous improvements, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
